Burgundy gites, Claude Clavel the Boss of the Domaine de La Vieille BordeWelcome to the Internet site of the Domaine de la Vieille Borde. When I bought the domain in 1988, everything was totally neglected.
The surrounding fields were completely overgrown and could not be cultivated. The walls were falling down. Gaping holes in the roofing meant that the beautiful oak beams were rotting away. With great patience, I began the restoration work.
The land had to be cleared, over 6 kilometres of trenches had to be dug to connect the electricity and water, the surroundings had to be drained, the foundations consolidated, the walls set straight and beams cut using the old methods. Little by little I put new life back into the Vieille Borde. Today, it is with the greatest pleasure that I should like to show you this place that I love.

Built by monks in C12th, then used as a hunting lodge by Vauban, the Domaine de la Vieille Borde was bought in extremis just over fifteen years ago.
Claude Clavel then embarked on the restoration of this magnificent fortified farm which is unique in the region.Today, the Domaine de La Vieille Borde has been converted into gites and can also host and organise receptions, seminars and countryside catering events and ceremonies. Come and discover the Domaine de La Vieille Borde, in the heart of Burgundy, opposite Vézelay and its "eternal hill", at Asquins, in an extraordinary and exceptional setting.
Today, the Vieille Borde has regained all its former glory and its grounds of over 60 hectares are home to rheas, deer and horses. Each season brings its own expressions of extreme beauty. Visitors are enchanted by the peaceful atmosphere that is omnipresent throughout the Domaine. The site has an aura of well-being and a magic calm that all visitors will experience.
